<image:title>Trauma Informed Therapist Online - Trauma Informed Psychotherapy</image:title>
<image:caption>Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all process. As a trauma-informed therapist, I want you to know that your story matters and that your pace matters. While clinical diagnoses can be a useful tool in some instances, I am more interested in understanding how your past experiences have influenced the way that you think, feel, and move through the world. I will work collaboratively with you to develop a treatment approach that is tailored to your unique needs. Working as a team, each of us will come to sessions bringing our own areas of expertise. While I may be the expert on clinical psychology, you are the expert on you. Nobody understands what it is like to be you better than you do. As I learn more about you each session, I will begin to share observations and hypotheses regarding patterns I am noticing and/or themes that are arising across different contexts. Through this process, we each will gain a more precise understanding of your internal experiences, and this insight will help us identify tailored strategies and tools that will help you move toward your therapy goals. As a clinical psychologist with a generalist background, I have training in multiple evidence-based approaches, including Solution-Focused Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). However, my foundation is in psychodynamic psychotherapy, which rests on two basic assumptions: present-day experiences are influenced by past experiences, and human behavior is largely directed by unconscious motivations. By gaining insight into the impact of early childhood experiences and by making the unconscious conscious, you will develop a greater awareness of forces (both internal and external) driving your behavior, and this insight will grant you a greater capacity to choose new and more effective behaviors. Up until recently, the field of clinical psychology has largely overlooked the impact of cultural and sociopolitical factors on human behavior and mental health. Our experiences do not occur in a vacuum, and in order for me to truly understand you, I must acknowledge and consider the multicultural context in which you live. My most important task as a therapist is to create a therapeutic space that is safe, validating, and inclusive. In particular, I am committed to creating an environment that is anti-racist, anti-sexist, neurodiversity-affirming, disability-affirming, and LGBTQIA-affirming.</image:caption>

<image:title>Trauma Informed Therapist Online - Areas of Practice</image:title>
<image:caption>Given my generalist background, I am qualified to provide psychotherapy to adult clients with a variety of mental health concerns. Although my services are available to clients from all backgrounds, I specialize in working with members of the LGBTQIA+ community, particularly gay and bisexual men, as well as with male-identified clients. As a psychodynamic therapist, I am particularly well suited to work with clients who are wanting to address complex trauma, interpersonal concerns, difficult childhood experiences, and/or issues related to their families of origin. My primary specialty areas include: LGBTQIA+ Issues Internalized homophobia and/or transphobia Gender dysphoria Coming out concerns Religious trauma Stigma, discrimination, and distress related to the political climate Men’s issues Complex trauma Childhood trauma and/or family of origin issues Shame, identity, and/or self-image concerns Perfectionism and people-pleasing Interpersonal/relationship concerns Personality disorders Depression Anxiety Neurodiversity Anger management Occupational and/or academic concerns Burnout Stress management Work/life balance Adjustment, transitions, and/or phase of life concerns If you would like to learn more about my services or are interested in scheduling an appointment, submit a contact form below.</image:caption>

<image:title>PSYPACT Therapist - My Commitment</image:title>
<image:caption>Has anyone ever told you to stop caring about what other people think about you? Although most people have heard this advice at some point in their lives, few are truly able to put this into practice. Why is it that so many of us struggle to let go of our need to please others and avoid rejection? Human beings are born with an innate desire to belong and to seek acceptance. Through our life experiences, many of us come to believe that certain parts of ourselves are unacceptable and will lead others to reject us. In an effort to avoid this potential rejection, we then learn strategies to suppress these supposedly undesirable parts and put forth an incomplete and/or fragmented version of ourselves to others. While these strategies might be advantageous to us in certain contexts, it is difficult to comfortably form fulfilling, intimate connections when we are not being our whole selves. This is where I come in. Above all else, my job as a therapist is to create a safe, validating, and inclusive space in which you can be your full and authentic self. My commitment is to see, hear, and understand each and every part of you, especially those parts that you are afraid to show others. My promise is to accept you unconditionally.</image:caption>

<image:title>Gender Affirming Letter Online - Gender Affirming Care Letter Online</image:title>
<image:caption>Transgender individuals seeking gender affirming care encounter several barriers, one of which is a requirement to obtain a referral letter (sometimes called a letter of support) from a licensed psychologist. As a proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community and a staunch ally of the transgender community, I am happy to provide evaluations and referral letters for gender affirming care, as well as name and gender marker changes. Rather than serving as a gatekeeper for gender affirming care, my goal is to be a facilitator and to make this particular step of the process as simple and straightforward as possible. Clients seeking a referral letter for gender-affirming care will be scheduled for a one-hour diagnostic evaluation for Gender Dysphoria, and the letter will be made available to download from my client portal within 2-3 business days. In order to increase accessibility, I use a “pay-what-you-can” model for gender affirming care evaluations, with a fee range of $50-$200. I will ask you to tell me what amount within that range you are able to afford, and that will be your one-time fee that covers the evaluation, any necessary follow-up appointments, the letter, and coordination with your healthcare providers and/or insurance company. If you are interested in scheduling an evaluation for gender affirming care, name changes, or gender marker changes, please submit a contact form below.</image:caption>

<image:title>Online Couples Therapy - Online Couples Therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>Every relationship carries its own histories, strengths, challenges, and vulnerabilities. When communication breaks down and/or conflicts become increasingly difficult to resolve, it can feel as if you and your partner(s) are trapped in a vicious loop. My role as a therapist is to help you and your partner(s) recognize maladaptive patterns of conflict and work together, rather than against each other, to reconstruct these patterns and develop more effective means of communication. I will then help you reconnect emotionally so that you can create a relationship that feels fulfilling, intimate, and vulnerable. Although I will work collaboratively with you and your partner(s) to develop a treatment approach that caters to your specific needs, my primary theoretical approaches include psychodynamic and emotionally focused couples psychotherapy. One assumption of psychodynamic theory is that past experiences, especially those that occur in childhood, influence present-day experiences. This is particularly relevant to couples therapy, as our parents serve as a foundational model for how we understand and approach romantic relationships. Misunderstandings and miscommunications often arise in relationships because each partner’s subjective experience of the present is influenced, in part, by their unique childhood experiences and cultural identities. My goal as a couples therapist is to help each partner understand how their background influences the ways in which they show up in their relationship, while also encouraging partners to speak to their own emotions and subjective experiences, rather than dwelling on complaints about their significant other(s).</image:caption>

<image:title>LGBT Therapist Online - LGBTQIA+ Issues</image:title>
<image:caption>Clients within the LGBTQIA+ community are often seeking therapy for the same reasons as anyone else (e.g., anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, stress management, etc.). However, sexual and gender minorities face unique challenges that contribute to psychological distress. In my work with LGBTQIA+ clients, I frequently draw upon the Minority Stress Model (Meyer, 2003) to help highlight these unique challenges and explore the impact that they have on clientt’ mental health. The Minority Stress Model posits that higher rates of psychological distress and clinical diagnoses among sexual and gender minorities are not the result of these identities themselves, but are rather stemming from chronic stress associated with stigma, discrimination, and social exclusion. In particular, this framework identifies the following stressors as unique contributors to pyschological distress within the LGBTQIA+ community: Prejudice events (i.e., stigma, discrimination, violence, political oppression, and/or non-affirmation of identities) Internalized homophobia and/or transphobia Expectations of rejection and/or discrimination Challenges associated with either concealing or disclosing one’s identity As both an LGBTQIA+ specialist and member of the community, I am particularly attuned to these unique stressors, and I strive to understand my clients’ concerns and symptoms within the context of their cultural identities and lived experiences. My practice offers affirming, trauma informed therapy for LGBTQIA+ clients, and I have particular experience working with gay or bisexual men, as well as transgender and/or gender-diverse clients.</image:caption>

<image:title>Virtual Therapy for PTSD - Complex Trauma</image:title>
<image:caption>Complex trauma refers to the psychological impact of repeated and/or prolonged exposure to stressful or harmful experiences, particularly when those experiences occur during childhood or within important relationships. Unlike trauma stemming from a single event, complex trauma often occurs within the context of ongoing relational experiences, particularly family of origin relationships. Because these experiences often occur during key developmental periods, they can significantly impact a person’s capacity for emotional regulation, expectations in relationships, boundaries, communication styles, and/or self-image later in life. Examples of such experiences might include: Psychological or emotional abuse Growing up in environments marked by conflict, fear, or instability Exposure to unpredictable or unstable caregiving Chronic emotional neglect Repeated violations of trust within close relationships Many individuals who experience complex trauma develop mechanisms to cope and/or remain safe that are adaptive in earlier environments, yet become unhelpful or even harmful in the present. For example, clients who have experienced complex trauma often struggle with one or more of the following: Chronic anxiety and/or emotional overwhelm Excessive self-criticism or shame Strong emotional responses to situations, particularly those that resemble earlier experiences Difficulty trusting others or forming close relationships Feelings of emptiness, numbness, or disconnection Difficulty identifying or expressing emotions Psychodynamic therapy is particularly well suited for clients who have experienced complex trauma, given its focus on gaining insight regarding the role that past experiences play in shaping current relational dynamics and emotional patterns. This approach helps clients gain awareness of repeating patterns in their relationships, as well as the unconscious beliefs and expectations that they are bringing to their relationships. This increased awareness provides clients with the flexibility to develop new ways of relating to others and a more compassionate and stable sense of self. Although these qualities can certainly be valuable in some situations, many men find it difficult to seek support or talk openly about their emotions and experiences. Consequently, men frequently find it difficult to be vulnerable in relationships, and many have a tendency to suppress their emotions, rather than process them. Psychotherapy can provide a unique space for men to talk openly about their challenges, enhance their capacity for emotional processing and vulnerability, and develop practical strategies to promote change. My services are ideal for men who want to better understand themselves, strengthen their relationships, and navigate the pressures they face in work and in their personal lives. Men come to therapy for a wide range of concerns. Some of the most common include: Feelings of anger, irritability, or emotional numbness Stress related to work, career, or financial pressures Burnout and/or difficulty maintaining a sustainable work/life balance Relationship conflict and/or difficulty expressing emotions or communicating effectively in relationships Anxiety, depression, and/or trauma-related distress Life transitions (e.g., career change, divorce, becoming a parent, etc.) Questions regarding identity, purpose, or direction in life Psychotherapy can provide a safe and supportive environment to explore these and other concerns while working toward meaningful solutions. <image:title>LGBTQ Couples Therapy Online - Ethical Non-Monogamy (ENM)</image:title>
<image:caption>Relationships exist in many forms, and many people build healthy and fulfilling relationships outside of monogamy and traditional relationship dynamics. Ethical non-monogamy (ENM) refers to relationship structures in which partners mutually agree that romantic and/or sexual connections with others are acceptable. The key elements are consent and transparency among all involved. Clients in nontraditional relationships often encounter misunderstanding and stigma in mental health settings. My practice offers affirming therapy for partners who are exploring and/or practicing ENM relationships, including open relationships, polyamorous relationships, and other consensual non-monogamous dynamics. Whether you are considering opening your relationship, navigating an existing ENM structure, or strengthening communication with multiple partners, I will provide a supportive and nonjudgmental space to help you work through these complexities. In particular, couples and partners practicing ENM often come to therapy for one or more of the following: Navigating the transition from monogamy to non-monogamy Creating clear agreements and boundaries Managing jealousy, insecurity, and emotional triggers Strengthening communication and honesty Repairing trust after broken agreements Balancing time, emotional energy, and multiple relationships Navigating new partners or changes within a polycule If you would like to learn more about my services or are interested in scheduling an appointment, submit a contact form below.</image:caption>
