My Commitment
Has anyone ever told you to stop caring about what other people think about you? Although most people have heard this advice at some point in their lives, few are truly able to put this into practice. Why is it that so many of us struggle to let go of our need to please others and avoid rejection?
Human beings are born with an innate desire to belong and to seek acceptance. Through our life experiences, many of us come to believe that certain parts of ourselves are unacceptable and will lead others to reject us. In an effort to avoid this potential rejection, we then learn strategies to conceal these supposedly undesirable parts and put forth an incomplete and/or fragmented version of ourselves to others. While these strategies might be advantageous to us in certain contexts, it is difficult to comfortably form fulfilling, intimate connections when we are not being our whole selves. This is where I come in.
Above all else, my job as a therapist is to create a safe, validating, and inclusive space in which you can be your full and authentic self. My commitment is to see, hear, and understand each and every part of you, especially those parts that you are afraid to show others. My promise is to accept you unconditionally.
